The Free Citizen, The Fair Society

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Please help make the Manifesto better, or accept it, and propagate it!
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I am a new member of the IPI. The piece on the "Free Citizen, The fair
Society" is very fundamental and clarifies our assumptions on our roles. I
would like to bring the following to discussion/debate.

Current :
Our existence is separate
The chain of events leading to my birth, essentially unrelated in any way
to the political boundaries that I see today, places me in the environs of
a particular society, to which I am related essentially through my parents.
But ultimately, I am an independent link of the chain, that will one day
break away like a leaf falling from the tree, existing today for reasons
best defined by me and understood by me, alone. I alone can actually feel
pain when I nick myself, not my nation, nor even my family. I alone can
think for myself. Not my nation, nor even my family.

Proposed Change:

Our Existence:
The chain of events leading to my birth, essentially unrelated in any way
to the political boundaries that I see today, places me in the environs of
a particular society, to which I am related essentially through my parents.
I have been endowed with a body and mind and my exixtence today are for
reasons best defined and understood by me. It is upto me to decide whether
I am seperate or in anyway connected to my family, nation or humanity.

Rationale : Deciding upfront that I /we are seperate is forcing a
philosophy on us and I object to that. It should be left to the "Free
Citizen" for him to decide if he is connected/related to others. I can feel
the pain if someone in my family is hurt (nicked). I can feel the pain of
poverty in my nation. So please give me the liberty to decide if am
seperate or not.

My Compact with Society/Government/Nation
Current :
I had powers of existence defined unto me the moment I was born, and my
parents through the society had protected this power through a contract,
restraining those who would diminish this power in any way, and enabling
those who would cherish and further it so that I was safe while I grew into
myself. That contract was for the creation and support of a government and
consequently of a nation, through transfering my task of self-defence to
other free citizens in lieu of payment. The nation was created by us,
through our joint acquiescence, thus, primarily to protect ourselves, and
its sanctity remains as long as this fundamental compact is honored.

Proposed Change:
I, like evryone else in the society, have the right to exist and utilize my
body & mind to fully realise my potential, without impinging on other's
right to do the same. The nation was created by us primarily to protect
this right of ours in lieu of payment, and its sanctity remains as long as
this fundamental compact is honoured.

Rationale: The nation should not only protect my physical safety. I t
should aslo make sure that I am not prevented by others from realising my
potential as a human being.

Loaning Additional Powers:

No proposed changes.

Fair Society:

1. Why should my occupation be socially acceptable? Is it not enought if
it is legally acceptable?

2. Currently :
Those that are not able, by virtue of their physical or mental limitations,
nevertheless are equally deserving of the merits of the efforts in
comparable proportion to that which they might reasonably obtain if their
limitations were removed.
This sounds socialistic to me. How would you define mental limitation? A
less intelligent person is mentally limited. He may not be able to perform
and deliver value as much as a more intelligent person. so how am i to
reward him the same for his efforts?

I propose that : physically and mentally handicapped persons would be, in a
fair society, treated wih dignity as humanbeings and allowed and encouraged
to deliver value and realise their potential to the best of their abilities.

My obligation and method to review these arrangements
Current:
Everything that existed in the past existed without my permission. I can do
nothing about it. But any existing arrangement that desires to exist while
I am aware must get my permission to exist from that moment, either
explicitly, or, as is more common, implicitly. If I do not wish to permit
it to exist, I can use the powers of voice to challenge it, and with mutual
consent of my fellow sojourners, change it. That is my chosen obligation
and the only mutually acceptable method available. Should my efforts, and
those of other like-minded persons, fail to achieve such change, I remain
obligated to maintain the existing arrangement without losing the right to
continue my efforts to get it changed.

Proposed Change & Rationale:
I am worried about the word "Existing Arrangements". That could mean laws ,
or even mean existing social practices, etc. I would certainly like to
retan the right to challenge any existing arrangement, using voice, but I
am certainly not obligated to maintain/accept all exixting arrangements
even if i am unable to change it. I am only obligated to accept the laws. I
need not accept an existing arrangement (say paying a bribe or dowry or
religious customs) even if i am not able to change it. I feel that the word
" Existing Arrangements" is very loose in this context.

My Obligation to Others:

Same.
