"If you recall, he had accused India of wishing to 'annihilate' Pakistan"-
Atanu Dey

"But the fact is many in India would like to annihilate Pakistan, .." -
Naveen

Mr Dey, this displayer of "typical Indian cowardice" would like to point out
the obvious distortion in your statement above.

By the way *what* constitutes religous tolerance? Letter or spirit? The only
thing we seem to tolerate are the religionists (of all flavors)! when even
high profile cases like the babri masjid or the Staines killings or anti
sikh riots in delhi or the anti hindu/muslim riots in bombay have no
resolution despite glacially slow judicial processes...what do you suppose
happens to the hundreds of smaller cases? I talked to many _very tense
hindus as recently as this past december in parts of UP. You better believe
there are many conspiracy theories cooking that do not bode well for
religous tolerance at all. Many of the literate, employed, non RSS hindus i
spoke with seemed to think that the muslims were out to recapture the days
of mughal glory!?? There are also stories of ISI infiltration (with local
muslim collusion), accelerated muslim conversion and so on. I am not
disputing or supporting those statements here (and I am sure it is not news
to anybody) I just want to point out that for whatever reason, rational or
not, religious tolerance is largely a matter of letter and not spirit in
significant areas of the country. I would even clump caste violence as
religous inolerance.

we should stop "smoking our own dope" and expose the entire politician class
for it's colossal lack of will to tackle this very serious issue.

cheers,
-rakesh
