Re: economic history of india

Postings not related to the writing of the Manifesto or policy chapters
are likely to be summarily rejected. Thanks for your understanding. IPI

I would also be interested in finding out which are the best books on the
economic history of India, but specifically from the Mugal period up to
Independence. Perhaps Dr Roy can advise?

Thanks, Mr. Roy, I will try and get hold of your book. It seems to cover

the post-Independence period. What I meant was a general economic
history -- from the start of Indian Civilisation to the present... or at

least from the beginning of the British Raj or the middle ages...

A great deal seems to have been made about the economic conditions of
the people that 'necessitated' government intervention and a Socialist
government to look after the welfare of the people after independence.
Maybe the facts that are usually presented could be interpreted in an
another way if some more facts are brought into view...

Such a liberal (and I don't mean a biased or ideologically driven one)
history, going back into time would certainly make "A Citizens'
Manifesto" and the fallacy of Fabian socialism much more easy to digest
for many...
